Venkataram is a graduate from IIT Delhi and an alumni of IMD Lausanne. His career of 43 years, started with Simon Carves where he was involved in construction of a refinery, a fertilizer plant an oil and gas terminal and a boiler. He joined Det Norske Veritas (DNV) where he worked for 25 years and held senior management positions.

He was the prime driver of building the Certification and Training business to make it the largest in India. He headed the certification operations of DNV covering Middle East, South and South East Venkataram joined British Standards Institution(BSI) in 2006 as the Managing Director for India, and retired in May 2020, and the business not only grew 8 fold, but the brand is considered the gold standard.
